During the week there will be teachings and practises on mindfulness and compassion with Suryacitta and Gaynor. It is suitable for complete beginners and those who wish to deepen their practice of mindfulness and compassion.
The retreat will be based on Suryacitta’s first book “Happiness and How it Happens – Finding contentment through mindfulness”.
Suryacitta and Gaynor will cover themes from Suryacitta’s book such as:
- Opening to your natural goodness
- It’s ok to be afraid
- Compassion meditation
- Stirring the porridge – waking up to each moment
of your life
- Worry – and how to stop it
- The wisdom of loneliness
- Living in the Present
There will be ample opportunity for question and answers and time for discussion. Walking meditation will also be taught and there will be opportunity to practice it in the beautiful forest surrounding Casa Rosa.
You wll also be able to practice mindful swimming in the gorgeous pool.
There will also be other (optional) activities taught on the retreat such as Voice Dialogue and Focusing.
About the instructors
Suryacitta is one of the founders and principal teachers of Mindfulness, and both an author and radio presenter on the practice. He runs retreats and courses in the UK, Europe and Australia, and has written two books on the topic: Happiness and How It Happens: Finding Contentment through Mindfulness (published in 2011), and Mindfulness & Compassion: Embracing Life with Loving-Kindness (published in October 2015).
Beginning his Mindfulness meditation back in 1989, Suryacitta was ordained into the Western Buddhist Order in 1999, and subsequently spent five years living in a meditation retreat centre, leaving in 2005. Having trained in Mindfulness-based stress reduction, he completed the Mindfulness in Schools Project at Bangor University.
Gaynor Quilter, co-founder of Mindfulness CIC has worked in charities for over 30 years, principally with young people including homeless, parenting and mental health. She was CEO of Alone in London and Apex Works. Gaynor’s interests lie in the alignment between values, culture and behaviours.
Gaynor has been practising mindfulness for over 10 years. She came to the practice after the death of her Mum and found that mindfulness allowed her to stay in her body rather then her head. She found it the most helpful way of experiencing pain and loss. She also uses focusing as a creative process to help her understand her emotional life. Gaynor has a degree from Bradford University and attended mindfulness teacher training at Bangor University.

What people say
BEAUTIFULLY SECLUDED IN THE HILLS ABOVE ASSISI…
“A Mindfulness Retreat brought me to Assisi and to Casa Rosa. It is the perfect location. The Apartments and surrounding gardens blend so well with the landscape. Lavender fills the air. The apartments are beautifully furnished with everything that you you would ever need. Lovely bed linen and towels. Wonderful food and wine. Wonderful art. Ella and her family are so gracious, so helpful and so welcoming.
I should mention the pool with a view ~ swimming in the Lavender perfumed air is unforgettable.
So convenient for Assisi and the St Francis pilgrimage.
I hope to visit again.”

SPECTACULAR PLACE THAT TAKES YOUR BREATH AWAY…
“I had a really relaxing and memorable week in this special place called Casa Rosa. The landscape took my breath away with the stunning mountains and lovely olive trees. The garden, the pool area and everything around the Casa Rosa was so breathtakingly beautiful. Ella & Alessandro, the owners, are the most hospitable and warmhearted people ever and truly make the stay there spectacular. Every room in Casa Rosa was like a work of art. The rooms were also very cozy, clean and comfortable and I slept like a baby. And don’t even ask about the food, I could write a love letter to the delicious food I had an opportunity to enjoy while staying there. I’m surely coming back there and recommend this place highly!”
