About the tutor – Judith White
Judith White has worked professionally as an artist for over 35 years, she has countless major art awards under her belt, and her commissioned works hang on the walls of Olympic Co-ordination authority, Attorney General Department of NSW and the Hilton Hotel and many other prestigious addresses. But her success is only part the reason she is in such demand as a teacher of art.Judith happily shares her own learning from years of pursuing and developing the technique that makes her own art so intriguing. She works tirelessly with students, getting the most out of them and helping them find their own view, their own direction. Guests come back year after year for Judith’s workshops because they learn so much, and grow exponentially as artists

The art workshop
Italy is a familiar destination to many artists, with its culture of passion and warmth and food and wine to be savoured. But this workshop will be a unique art holiday experience.
Based within the boundaries of the Mount Subasio National Park, Umbria and a short drive from the Unesco recognised medieval city of Assisi, the workshop is art practice-focused, relying on gathering reference in the field. You’ll have a studio area to allow you to paint and draw in comfort.
Ten miles from our accommodation at “Casa Rosa” is the hilltop town of Assisi – full of Roman and medieval history. Assisi has the beauty, charm and history we associate with Italy without the crowds of more touristy areas.
Included in the 10 day itinerary are carefully chosen activities to provide a full and rich experience of the region. Art sessions are interspersed with visits to Assisi, the world famous Basilica, the home of a private art collector, the Roman Forum, wine tasting plus exploring, sketching and shopping along a maze of charming cobbled streets, lined with artisans, cafes, flags, lanterns, with castle and valley views never more than a stroll away.
The workshop price includes accommodation in the lovingly restored farmhouses at Casa Rosa, beautiful meals, expert art tuition by Judith White, excursions and tours.

Travel to Assisi (usually by train from Rome).
You will be picked up from Assisi train station between 10 and 11am. We’ll visit a Café in Assisi for lunch before travelling 15 minutes to our accommodation at Casa Rosa. You’ll have the afternoon to settle in before meeting the owners, Emanuela and Alessandro and your tutor Judith White over appertif and dinner.
Start today at Casa Rosa getting a feel for the area with a walk among the gardens, olive groves and yurts before commencing workshop activities with Judith in a marquee studio overlooking the Mount Subasio National Park.
After a morning in the studio with Judith we meet with artisan weaver, Luciana in her textile laboratory where she produces a staggering range of articles on a 150 year-old French loom she restored. Next we visit the vineyard where brothers, Pierluigi and Roberto are continuing the winemaking legacy of their grandfather who planted the first vines there in the 1800’s. We’ll enjoy a wine tasting, with meats and bruschetta as we learn about their special wines.
Our day in the medieval town of Assisi begins with a guided tour of the Basilica of St Francis followed by an exploration of the Roman ruins of houses that still exist beneath the city.
After lunch walk the meandering streets with Judith, sketching and recording your impressions between coffee and gelato! In the late afternoon we meet with resident art historian and collector, who has agreed to open his home of artifacts for us to see up close. This experience is not to be missed. For dinner we visit a local Trattoria.
Day 6 – Free day

A full day to work in the studio with Judith, fleshing out ideas through critique and discussion.
Spend the morning consolidating the week’s content with Judith and take a break in the afternoon to visit the nearby gallery of a surprising artist couple. Later, it’s music night at Casa Rosa!
Option to visit the Assisi markets early then spend our last afternoon in the studio selecting your favourite ‘in progress’ pieces for tonight’s informal exhibition and party.
Breakfast and farewells before you are transferred to Assisi train station for the next leg of your adventures.
