Umbria Art Courses 2018 - Painting, Drawing Workshop

September 27th to October 6th 2018

with Judith White

What will you learn?

Through discussion and demonstration, Judith will help you develop imaginative and abstract ideas from preliminary sketches made during the field sessions, to create pieces of depth, texture and subtle layering. Selecting what to paint and draw is an important part of your own reference gathering process for later interpretation and development in the studio. Judith will demonstrate how to make the most of being in situ. These are great workshops to bring awareness to our personal response to the landscape and finding a means to express it.

The art workshop

Italy is a familiar destination to many artists, with its culture of passion and warmth and food and wine to be savoured. But this workshop will be a unique art holiday experience.

Based within the boundaries of the Mount Subasio National Park, Umbria and a short drive from the Unesco recognised medieval city of Assisi, the workshop is art practice-focused, relying on gathering reference in the field. You’ll have a studio area to allow you to paint and draw in comfort.

Ten miles from our accommodation at “Casa Rosa” is the hilltop town of Assisi – full of Roman and medieval history. Assisi has the beauty, charm and history we associate with Italy without the crowds of more touristy areas.

Included in the 10 day itinerary are carefully chosen activities to provide a full and rich experience of the region. Art sessions are interspersed with visits to Assisi, the world famous Basilica, the home of a private art collector, the Roman Forum, wine tasting plus exploring, sketching and shopping along a maze of charming cobbled streets, lined with artisans, cafes, flags, lanterns, with castle and valley views never more than a stroll away.

The workshop price includes accommodation in the lovingly restored farmhouses at Casa Rosa, beautiful meals, expert art tuition by Judith White, excursions and tours.

This workshop is best suited to –

Intermediate and advanced artists although courageous beginners are encouraged too. Judith works hard to support her students to take up the challenge and push the boundaries of their work. You’ll finish the trip having created a solid collection of new pieces to go on with, and perhaps some near completion.
